One day a friend told me:
“You know what. I envy you.”
Shocked. I asked:
“Why would you want to be like me while all I wanted was to be strong like you?”
She replied:
“Because you feel. You have passion. You can love someone as if it were the first time. You know how to love wholeheartedly and unconditionally. You feel the pain. But you also can feel the uttermost happiness.
Sometimes I feel that I am just living life day by day without any feelings. Some people go through their whole lives not knowing that real love is. They also never had to suffer heartbreak. But that does not make them happy.
I would rather be like you. Because only then do you live your life fully and find real meaning in life.”
This came as a complete surprise to me. In my everyday prayers and diary, I have always asked God to give me a cold heart, so I would never have to get my heart broken again.
I went to do a mini survey of all my girlfriends and ask them:
“Would you rather be alone and happy with yourself and live every day the same or fall in love, be happy and then get your heart-broken?”
Guess what? They all replied: “I’d rather take the risk and get my heart-broken but enjoy the happy moments than live my life everyday the same”
I then asked my girlfriends who had gone through many luckless romances:
“Would you switch places to the girls who marry their first love (that we always envy) or go through all these bad relationships and break-ups that we’ve gone through?”
And guess what? They all replied: “Although I envy them, I still would not switch places with them. I feel lucky for all I’ve gone through. Without the mishaps, I would never understand what love and happiness is and be able to appreciate it. If I marry my first love, I would be lucky, but I wouldn’t even be able to realize how fortunate I am or have gone through pain to feel the simple happiness”
Well, so this means that I am a truly lucky girl in all aspects. I guess I have nothing to complain about.
